Mama Kin Spender are coming back to the Byron Shire to promote the release of their 8 track album 'Golden Magnetic' . This release is the icing on the cake of a creative fusion between two long time friends, who were destined to work together to release this body of work.
Describing their collaboration as a "creative balm" to their creative disenchantment and their both juggling family commitments, Spender and Mama Kin turned towards their friendship to re-ignite their creative fire. Inspired by Rufus Wainwright's community song project in Toronto, they heard their calling to integrate their performances to communities around the country, by picking up local choirs to perform with them as they toured.
Their swag of new songs were written to be performed with Mama Kin Spender as a duo, with stripped back guitar and drums. The songs were soon to be harmonised by local choirs, with the assistance of their good friend Virginia Bott (of Brighter Later and First Chorus Band of Singers). Virginia collaborated on the choral arrangements, notated the parts, ran the intensive workshop/rehearsals and led the choirs in their performances.
Mama Kin Spender return to Mullumbimby on Wednesday 9th May to once again woo audiences and to empower the local Midnight Choir into their performance sans Virginia Bott.
