ENCHANTING English singer-songwriter Martha Tilston is currently on the road in Australia with her inspirational band, showcasing her latest album NOMAD. She’s played Victoria’s Port Fairie Folk Festival, Yakandanda Festival, plus some smaller venues around the Southern end and will conclude with the National Folk Festival in Canberra 13th – 16th April.
Martha has already released 6 albums to date on her own label Squiggly Records and has built up a large audience world wide, with her honest and straightforward musical imagery.
NOMAD invites you to make a fire outside under the stars, dive into a big green moon, fly over a world of robots and humans queuing together for the cinema, dance in a scribbled fever in a downstairs bar, be a fish swimming around a tank planning escape, climb out of the car and lie in a field, asking what is the solution for our humanity and this tiny blue pearl that we spin on.
This collection of uplifting and elemental songs on NOMAD, very subtly ask bigger questions about our existence, humanity and our relationship to nature.
Martha Tilston grew up immersed in music. Her singer-songwriter father Steve Tilston and her step-mother, renowned folk singer Maggie Boyle were obvious influences, with musical friends regularly performing at their table, such as Bert Jansch, John Rebourn and John Martyn. Growing up in a musical household, she thought everyone wrote music, which is not surprising given her background.
