Mystery Train with Sista Mary

MYSTERY TRAIN now pulls out of the station at 10am each Saturday morning presented by Sista Mary.

This is a roots-based music program, which is all about Soulful performance. It focuses on great Country music in it's many manifestations. There will also be Folk, Blues, Singer/Songwriters, the music of Louisiana and all the southern American states.

Excellent Australian, British and Canadian artists in these genres are featured as well.

Expect to hear new releases, then a feature on a particular artist, band or genre with interviews.

Her album “Dakota Avenue” is named after the street she lived on, and was recorded by Wilco member JAY BENNETT in Wilco’s Chicago loft over a decade ago. Following Bennett’s untimely death in 2009, Rich pulled out the tapes and worked with Shane O’Mara to mix the album. Many of these songs sound like Wilco outtakes, which is not a bad thing! 7. Originally from Belgium, Carl now lives in Byron with his partner PARISSA BOUAS. Together they recorded four albums as The Hottentots. “The House Is Empty” is a very personal solo album with a strong European feel, harking back to earlier times in Carl’s very adventurous life. He graduated with a law degree, then headed to South Africa in the latter part of the 60’s at the height of apartheid and found himself working with ethnomusicologist John Blacking. ‘Way Down In The Mines’ vividly describes the flight of many young black men at that time. Carl’s wonderful book TARAB: Travels With My Guitar describes his many travels and is a must read! 14. CARL CLEVES – Way Down In The Mines – The House Is Empty (2012 Vitamin) 15. CARL CLEVES – Leaving Byron Bay – The House Is Empty (2012 Vitamin) JACQUES BREL was a towering figure in Europe, who sang in French and Flemish. His music played a prominent part in the soundtrack to young Carl’s life. My own first introduction to Brel’s work came in English translation on Scott Walker’s first solo album. The closing track on Carl’s album ‘La Chanson des vieux amants’ is recorded in a retro stereo 60’s sound. 16.
