Detained Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been in court this week, faced with an extradition request from the United States government. We hear again from Mr Assange’s father, John Shipton, as he recounts this week’s hearings in Woolwich Crown Court.
Back in the Byron bubble, we hear from the mayor and deputy mayor after the first ordinary Byron Shire Council meeting for 2020 – they each had some wins on issues ranging from Julian Assange to affordable housing to the arts.
Questions over how ‘green’ the Byron Shire Council Greens members really are continue, this week we hear what the mayor has to say in response to accusations the council’s New Democracy work isn’t so democratic after all. We also hear from one of the council’s most prolific critics, Echo editor Hans Lovejoy.
Regional universities sometimes struggle to attract students but on the Northern Rivers, we hear how Southern Cross University has had record enrolments this year and how new access to federal scholarships mean higher education is more accessible to low-income earners.
